Hi Briana, that weight refers to the whole cherries. So you will pit 1.5 lbs of cherries, and then use those. Thanks for trusting our recipes!

Your recipee for cherry pie calls for 1.5 lbs of cherries. Does this refer to cherries that are unpitted or those already pitted? I hope to make this pie for tonight, but will need a speedy answer!! Sorry for the rush!! (Huge anticipatory smile on my face!)

p.s I tried your recipee for rice krispie treats, which were good but they didn’t go over as well as the original recipee. I made them three times to check for any errors on my part. Thanks for all your hard work!

I’m really glad to read this! And, yes, a cherry pitter is very very very worth it!

One of the best pies I’ve ever made. My boyfriend requested cherry pie for his birthday and I wanted to try a new recipe. I almost went with store bought crust but followed your homemade flaky pie crust recipe as well and it was perfect! I have a feeling this will be a new favorite! We will keep this recipe in the books. Very delicious not too runny sweet or tart.
Thank you!
Readers beware… BUY a cherry pitter! I didn’t order one on time and I was halving and pitting cherries for a while. lol!

But I also reduced the sugar by half, which really let the tang of the cherries shine through.

Not too sweet or sour…just perfect in taste and held well together for slicing. Crust delicious. Will definitely make it again. Rave reviews from family. I bought the OXO 6 cherry pitter and it made the pitting quick and easy.

I have made so many pies using so many different recipes for crust and this was BY FAR the best! Easy enough, and delicious! And my cherries had the perfect amount of liquid and consistency! Thank you!!
