I did take one short cut since I had to make 3 pies, I used a store bought crust instead of making my own. I don’t normally do that, but as I was pressed for time, I took this one short cut. Pies turned out great and they were a big hit at our weekly dinner. I will be making this again. Fantastic recipe and very easy to follow instructions.

Hi Gianna, butter is the base of the filling here, so the overall taste and texture will be different. Feel free to still enjoy the pie, though!

Chocolate is intense but smooth. The lower sugar whipped cream sets off the chocolate very nicely. If you love chocolate this is the pie for you!

I don’t like chocolate for the most part but my granddaughters chose this recipe for their first pie. The recipe was labor intensive but it was worth it! I will definitely make it again and they both asked for the recipe. The chocolate filling is so good you could serve it as a mousse/pudding as a dessert alone!

Barbara F. mentioned that the recipe was labor intensive and I agree. I,m 75 and tire easily. The pasteurized eggs suggestion is a good idea and I will use them next time. I did have to strain the egg mixture because it had a few curdled eggs but everything came out well in the end. I made this pie for a friend who just had surgery and she loved it. Thanks for a great recipe.

I had a hard time folding the whipped filling in with the chocolate mix so made a little adjustment whipping an additional half cup of cream, but the end result…..superb!!
